Padel is a modern racket sport invented in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera in Acapulco, Mexico, after he adapted a small, enclosed court with walls.
In the 1970s, the sport spread to Spain and Argentina, where it became especially popular. Argentina embraced padel rapidly, and Spain soon developed a strong competitive culture.
The International Padel Federation (FIP) was founded in 1991, alongside the first World Padel Championships. Today, padel is one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide, valued for its accessibility, social appeal, and dynamic style of play.
